How to Get Dressed Faster Every Morning: 5 {MAJOR} Time-Saving Tips

Happy Monday Mermaids!!

Today, I would like to share with you one of my most {FAVE} Pinterest finds to date that led to many, many life changing morning experiences! I am not a planner and most definitely NOT a morning person (at least until I had my caramel java chiller from Sonic) sooo let's just go ahead and say that...mornings just weren't a good look for me. Most of the time I was leaving my house with no makeup on, sometimes with not even my hair properly groomed, all because I'm a perfectionist without proper planning ahead abilities...especially when it comes to my outfit and accessories. So of course, with me being the awesome, amazing planner aheader that I am *cough, cough* I was waiting until about 15-20 minutes before I had to leave the house in the mornings to even think about what I was going to wear...my house would end up being left a disaster zone with tons of clothes, shoes, and jewelry being strewn all over the place! It was irritating to say the least so one day I shouted to the heavens, "Come on fashion Gods!!!! Help a sista out!!" and welp...the fashion Gods spoke and I found this post that changed it all! :) Hope all you mermaids enjoy and have a wonderful week!!

Found on StyleCaster.com

1. Check the forecast—for the whole week.Yes, we all know that checking the weather the night before is standard practice, but it pays to check the forecast for the entire week every Sunday. That way—even if you don’t choose clothes for every day—you’ll have a general idea about what you’ll probably be reaching for. For example: If you know the week ahead is mostly going to be cool and drizzly, you’ll be able to visualize what you typically wear in the rain, and where the items are located in your closet.

2. Pick out your clothes—and shoes—the night before.
We realize that you’re not an 8-year-old girl, but laying out tomorrow’s outfit tonight, intuitively, is a huge time-saver. Be sure to iron, steam, lint-roll, or treat anything else you need to the night before as well, and hang your outfit on a hanger outside your closet, so all you have to do in the morning is reach for it. It helps to keep your shoes out, too, since digging through your footwear collection in the morning could get distracting (the “this shoe or that shoe” game can be a massive time suck, right?).

3. Keep a clothing diary.
This may sound a little self-involved (or annoying), but we swear it works. Odds are, you wear outfits regularly that you like, but won’t remember them a few weeks later. No need to keep a separate notebook for this—simply jot down what you’re wearing each day in your work planner or calendar, and make a check mark next to outfits you’re really digging and might want to repeat again in their entirety. It’s extremely useful to flip back and see how you put items together, plus it serves as a nice little personal fashion recap.

4. Separate your  accessories.
Is there anything more annoying than deciding you want to wear a certain necklace only to find it tangled up in a impenetrable mass with a heap of other chains? Apart from the fact that tangled jewelry is generally one of life’s irksome occurrences, it’s especially frustrating first thing on the morning. The solution? Keeping your accessories totally separate from one another.
We’re big fans of the minimalist nail-in-the-wall treatment for necklaces or flimsy bracelets: Hammer nails in a horizontal or vertical row somewhere that makes sense (i.e., over a big mirror, on the wall next to your closet, over a dresser) and hang up one piece of jewelry per nail. At the end of the day, always put it back where you found it. OR instead of nailing numerous little holes in your wall (this errrkkkksss me a little), check out Ashley's (@MessyBeautifulLife) post on jelwery storage ideas over on the Metal Marvels Blog!!

5. Organize your closet
Having a game plan when it comes to your closet can effectively save precious time. You’d think that the more stuff you have, the easier it is to get dressed, but it’s actually the opposite that’s true: Lesser items means less things to weed through, which intuitively leads to fewer potential outfit combinations.
The first step to an easier-to-navigate closet: Assess your inventory and make smart cuts, so you’re basically able to see everything you have. The all-time best way to do this is by asking yourself one question: ”If I were shopping right this second, would I buy this item now?” If the answer is no, out it goes.
From there, divide your wardrobe by separates (shirts with shirts, skirts with skirts, etc.) and coordinate each each section going light to dark, left to right, since that’s how the eye naturally travels. Keep shoes lined up nearly on the floor of your closet, with the pairs you wear most often front and center.

You’ll see: These small tasks will make a huge difference when it comes to creating a less chaotic morning!

Putting On Your Oxygen Mask

I want to let you in on a little secret that has revolutionized my life....

You know when you're on an airplane and the attendant tells you that in case of an emergency to "put on your oxygen mask first, before assisting others?" Let me tell you how this applies to your everyday life!

While this post isn't about me, it's about YOU, I feel the best way for me to paint you a visual is by telling you my story.

Last year I had come to a conclusion that it was time I started making time for myself. I found myself overwhelmed by my days, my weight, and I just couldn't seem to find time to do anything that I wanted to do. We were just beginning our first year of homeschooling, and it was a bit freaky. How would I get it all done? It being, taking care of 3 kids, a house, 5 acres, schooling, and fitting some time for myself in there.

My days were full of taking care of everyone but myself. I had been trying to heal from bulging discs in my back for almost a year by this point. It was defeating to be in pain everyday.

I came to the realization that in order for me to have time for myself, I was going to have to MAKE time, and that meant rearranging my day. Sometimes we get so caught up in all the hats that we wear, that we forget to meet the needs of ourselves first. I have been so guilty of that!

Now, we are all different, our lives are different, so our days look different, but one thing remains the same for all of us, we are all women, and we are the only person who can take care of us.

We spend our days taking care of everyone else, whether that be your boss, your significant other, children, parents, etc., when do YOU make the list?

In my case, it was maybe later. Maybe after the kids are in bed. Maybe after the laundry is done. Maybe. Maybe. Maybe.

No more maybes. NOW! Start Now! You are SO important, and you matter more than you think you do. You are worth it!

Perhaps you're thinking, "when would I be able to fit me in?" "I don't have time to do anything for me." Uh, yes you do! It just has to be of importance to you. If you're waiting to "find time," it's never going to happen. You have to MAKE time. We all have 24 hours in a day, it's all in how you utilize that time.

For me, I decided to start my day at least 2 hours before my children wake up. Now, I'm not a morning person. I would much rather lay in bed until I have to get up, but clearly that wasn't working for me and my happiness anymore. I had to make a change. For me. Because I matter. It matters so much for me to be Erica first and foremost. I don't want to lose site of that person.  These children are only in my house for a short amount of time, and while I adore being a stay at home mom, they deserve to have the best version of me possible.

A woman who loves herself enough to take control of her life-body, mind, and spirit. A woman who says, you are so important. If you want something bad enough, you'll make it happen. Even if it means waking up before most and doing something to empower YOU!

I'm not saying you have to start your day two hours earlier than your norm, I'm just sharing what has worked for me thus far. Somedays I could get away with starting 3-4 hours early, but getting enough sleep is just as important to me.

So write down a few things that are important to you that you can't seem to find time for, and take a look at your day and rearrange it so you can make time! I highly encourage focusing on growing your spirit, mind, and getting a little exercise in. You seriously won't regret the decision!

My decision to make time for myself first thing in the mornings has made an incredible impact on my day. I fill my tank first and foremost, then I'm able to fill everyone else's. When I don't fill my tank, I'm left dry and cranky. Anybody else feel that way by the end of the day??

By making these few changes to my life, I have become the happiest I've ever been. I'm loving myself more than I ever have. I am making time to feed my soul, and take care of my body. I have absolutely no guilt whatsoever in doing something for ME! And you shouldn't either. You need to be the best version of you, if for no one else other than yourself. You are amazing! And I hope you never forget just how much you are worth it!

You have to put your own oxygen mask on before assisting others...

Until next time...XO

Flash Sale Frenzy

Hi Mermaids!

Almost a year ago, I stumbled upon Nobella Grace and it came at a time when I had just about lost faith in the kindness of others. I couldn't have been more lucky, because I didn't just find another store, I found an establishment with clothes that made me feel truly beautiful and a boutique who's owner treated me as a friend from the very beginning.

Now that I've gotten all sentimental, why don't I share with you one more thing that I love. So I don't know about you all, but I love a good sale and my most favorite sale is a Nobella Grace Flash Sale. Why? Because items are handpicked from the LA Fashion District, that are not only gorgeous but also so unique because there are only a few of each available. In order to give you a better idea of what an NBG Flash Sale looks like, I want to share with you my purchases from the last two.

For this look, I paired a Mint Everly dress with the Stone Pendant Necklace {{Find It Here}} and Jewel Tone Bangles {{Find Those Here}} from Metal Marvels, and leopard wedges because everyone knows that leopard is a neutral.

For this next look I paired a gorgeous Sage Dress with the Layered Druzy in Fuchsia {{Find It Here}} and Jewel Tone Bangles {{Find It Here}} from Metal Marvels.

For this last look, I paired a stunning Sage Romper in Marsala with the Quartz Stone Necklace {{Find It Here}}and Jewel Tone Bangles {{Find It Here}} from Metal Marvels.

Now if there's anything that I love more than a Nobella Grace Flash Sale, it's how well Nobella Grace pieces pair with Metal Marvels accessories, I mean if you haven't noticed already, I'm a little bit obsessed. So do yourselves a favor and check out the next Nobella Grace Flash Sale, it's definitely something you don't want to miss out on and hint hint, there will be another one coming up very soon. Have a great Friday loves!!

XOXO,

Alyssa

Good {Vibes} Only

I wanted to blog about something a little different this week... {Positive Affirmations} This has been something that has helped me tremendously over the past few months and so I wanted to share a bit of my knowledge about them with you! When you know how to use affirmations, you gain a great tool for achieving success and for improving your life! And I mean really...who doesn't want to be successful or improve their life in some way, shape, or form :)  But first things first...

What Are Affirmations?

Affirmations are positive statements that describe a desired situation, which are often repeated, until they get impressed into the subconscious mind. This process then pushes the subconscious mind to take action and to strive to make the positive statement come true.

So in other words...when you think {Positive} and are {Positive}
POSITIVE THINGS WILL HAPPEN!

Most people repeat in their minds, negative words and statements concerning the situations and events in their lives and consequently, create undesirable situations. Words can work both ways...they either build or destroy. It is the way we use them that determines whether they are going to bring in the good or bad. Your subconscious mind accepts as truth, what you keep telling yourself. It then attracts corresponding events and situations into your life. So, why not choose only positive statements in order to get positive results? You just always want to make sure that you're affirming in the present tense and not the future tense. For example...Saying, "I will be rich", means that you intend to be rich one day, in the indefinite future, but not now. It is more effective to say, and also feel, "I am rich now", and the subconscious mind will work at overtime to make this happen now, in the present.

Using positive affirmations daily has absolutely changed my life! I feel as though my soul is at peace, I have a new outlook on life, I'm happy and content, and all of the goals that I have set for myself are practically being handed to me on a silver platter! All from simply turning negative situations and thoughts into positive ones and looking for the good in everything! So...below I have listed some of the positive affirmations that I use on a daily basis. Feel free to tweak them to fit you or a specific situation that you're dealing with in your life and make them your own :)

Rule Breaker

Don’t dress too young…but don’t dress too old.
Keep it simple “let the youngsters rock the crazy trends”
Wear the best possible bra and use shape wear
Short shorts, mini skirts and mini dresses

I never really thought of being “over 40” as any different from being in my 30’s. After all, I don’t think I’m going to wake up on my 40th birthday looking and feeling any different than I did at 39. But as I have been noticing, now that I’m looking for it, there are sure a lot of “rules” for the over 40 crowd. From how you should dress, to hair color and style and makeup. One site even reminded readers that “everything is heading south, you know.” I hadn’t really noticed that, but thanks for sharing.

I’ve been diligent about taking care of myself all of my adult life. I want to age well and to do so I have made every effort to take the best care of my mind and body. I don’t want to feel old and I don’t want to look old. But this whole “over 40” business seems to come with some “rules” according to some sources. I don’t like rules…at least not from society and what other people think I should or should not do.

Okay, so let’s talk about fashion for the over 40 crowd. They say you’re not supposed to dress like your teenage daughter but…is it okay for your teenage daughter to dress like you? Because my 18 year old enjoys wearing my clothing. And to be honest, I’m kind of flattered by that. What I wear is appropriate for me, but it also happens to be the style for the younger girls right now too. I’ve also read that we are supposed to let the “youngsters rock the crazy trends”. I’m not exactly sure what that means - like booty shorts and crop tops, or what? I really think that you can and should ROCK whatever kind of outfit you want if you have the figure to pull it off in an appropriate way. Obviously, you want to dress for your shape and size and whatever situation you’re in. But heck, if you can pull it off, and feel comfortable doing so, by all means, do it!!

I definitely feel like a woman should feel free to wear whatever she likes and feels comfortable in at ANY age. What feels comfortable and appropriate for one woman may not feel the same for another and that’s okay. It doesn’t mean we all have to follow the same set of rules. You are uniquely you and I wholeheartedly believe that you should feel the freedom to express yourself through your personal style.

In 2 weeks I’ll be 40. I’m not purging my closet or heading out to buy a new wardrobe for the new decade. I’ll continue to be me and express myself in a way that feels good and comfortable to me. I want to empower you to do the same. No matter how old you are, no matter what your shape, be unique in your style and don’t worry about any rules you might find in society. After all, isn’t there are saying…”Rules are meant to be broken?!”

{Tricky Trends} And How To Master Them

It's nice to be able to say that you know which trends are in and which celebrity is wearing what but even the most seasoned fashionista has at least one of these trends that they simply don't know how in the haides to pull off! For me it's patterned leggings. I'm not sure why, but each time I have attempted to wear them I feel as if I just can't pull them off. But, my friends... I'm here to help and give you some great tips on pulling off those tricky  trends that just seem downright impossible!

Patterned Leggings

You don't have to be any certain height, shape, or body type to pull this tricky trend off; you simply need confidence and a great pair that you feel comfortable in! Patterned leggings are worn best with tunics, slouchy sweaters, and over-sized tee's. You're also going to want to stay away from pairing them with anything sheer (keep your top half opaque) and mixing them with too many colors. Your leggings are the ones making the statement here so you don't want to wear a top that takes away from that! Here is a great example of a simple boho look wearing patterned leggings.

Nobella Grace has got you covered in mastering this tricky trend! You can get their Perfect Pocket Tee $19 and their Mineral Wash Leggings $22 to pull it off perfectly :)

See-Through Tops

Lace, tulle, mesh, and chiffon are starting to make an appearance as the spring season gets closer and you might be wondering how in the world you can pull this off?! I'm here to tell you that sheer does not have to equal skimpy! When styling a see-through top, think about the occasion. Is it a night out? casual? Pair your top with a cami or bralette (which are a bit too skimpy to wear on their own) and a pair of high-waisted jeans/shorts or leggings (to cover your mid-section) for that perfect, classy spring/summer look! Just be cognizant of the color you choose to wear underneath as you won't want to come off like you've just stepped behind an x-ray ;)

Get your complete see-through top kit here at Nobella Grace!
Get the Boho Lace Tank $29 and the Daphne Bralette $24

Big Floppy Hats

Floppy hats are chic and not to mention very practical! Their wide brims protect your eyes from the sunlight and they can also cover up your dirty 3rd day hair ;) however, despite all the advantages to wearing these gorgeous pieces they are BIG and you might feel super awkward wearing such a large, bold statement piece..let alone a karge, bold statement on your head of all places! But there are a TON of styles that would meet the needs of literally everyone! First things first...find one that fits properly! A proper fitting hat should allow about two fingers width of room between the middle of your forehead and the hat. Next, work on finding one that fits your style, pick the right material, and also pay attention to your posture while wearing it.

Nobella Grace has you covered once again with the Grace Hat $30

Hope these little tricks of the trade help you wear something that you've been dying to try out but might not know exactly how to pull off :)

Had a great day mermaids!
